Bárbara is a new voting member of The Recording Academy! New York Chapter - Music Advocacy - Songwriters & Composers Wing…watch out!!
It’s official! Bárbara now has a Masters in Songwriting!
The ceremony was really worth it. There was an unforgettable keynote by jazz drummer Antonio Sanchez. Professors included Danilo Perez. And ALBA performed that night at the Long Live Roxbury with local special guests, including Antonio Mairena and Berklee professor Angel Subero. In Bárbara’s graduating class were friends Michelle Rosenbergh and Shelley Thomas.
Slowly but surely, in June I will be graduating from the masters program in songwriting that I started at Berklee College of Music during the pandemic. This has been going on simultaneously my regular teaching and performing schedule, even through summer travels and tours and vacations! The result will be the release of lots of new music under a new artist concept: “BARBARELLA”. You will be the first to know about the details!
I am feeling as inspired as ever with flamenco, with my many friends and colleagues who dedicate their lives to this beautiful art form…I loved getting to witness the unlimited talent on display in the Flamenco Festival that came through New York over the last few weeks. I'm looking forward to releasing my own body of work that was recorded a while back, a special and very personal album recorded in collaboration with pianist Gonzalo Grau. This collection of songs has my first lyrical adaptations and arrangements to traditional flamenco and also pays homage to Latin America and to my musical Argentinean heritage.
Lastly, ALBA MUSIK, is going strong! Albert Alabedra and Olyda Ola and I have been performing every month in a new pocket of the United States where flamenco communities are strong and thriving. I feel so lucky to have my soul brother, Sean Kupizs, join us on bass in many of these tours. Plans are being made as we speak for a summer tour in Spain, Greece and Switzerland!
Our recent experience performing at the United Nations was one that I will never forget. I literally wrote the lyrics to “Paradoja” thinking about the the many world conflicts that seem to have no easy solution. I had the image of the Knotted Gun sculpture at the U.N. in my mind’s eye.
We can’t believe it, “Alma” is officially on the first round US GRAMMY ballot! Ole!!
Our first album “Dawn” also made it to the first round for a nomination last year, so saying that we are proud and honored is really an understatement!
Of all the milestones, this is truly one of the most special accomplishments a musician can reach. We are so proud of this record and all the folks who put their hearts into this album: Olyda, Bob, Gonzalo, Engin, Arturo, Maria, Yiyi, Tony, Ernesto, Sol, Elisabet, Adrian, Arielle, Giselle. We love you! This wouldn't have been possible without you ❤️
Considering that this a brand new project of only 2 years, we are over the moon…Thank you everyone for your unconditional support 🙏🏽
If you are a Recording Academy Member, please consider voting for “Alma” by ALBA Musik, produced and mixed by Bob DiGiacomo and mastered by legend Robert Honablue.
